Kerry Wells introduced us to our clients, Barbara and Duncan, in Daglish. As a professional interior designer, Kerry was in charge of home renovation design. She was looking to outsource the project to builders, and this is where Perth Renovations Co entered the frame.

The first site meeting was a fantastic start to a great working relationship. It’s one of those encounters where you feel that some people will become more than just your clients. Barbara and Duncan were easy to talk to, and they knew the exact outcomes they wanted to arrive at for the renovation.

Our Daglish clients had a few requests, which we were more than happy to grant. First, Barbara previously hired two trades, which she had formed a level of trust, and wanted them to continue working until the completion of the project. We met with the tradesmen and assessed the quality of their work before accepting the request.

Second, Barbara and Duncan wanted to live in the back section of the house during the renovation process. It’s always our goal to make sure our clients are as comfortable as possible as we work on their home. For this project, we set up an outdoor kitchen and closed off the back section, allowing them to carry on with their daily routine without hindrances.

Having worked with older houses, our team has dealt with several issues, from the apparent to the hidden and the complex. Many of these problems occur due to inferior construction methods and poor judgement on the part of the previous renovator. Being able to uncover these problems before the actual renovation begins plays a critical role in the project’s success.

This Daglish home was built in the 1970s, and unsurprisingly, we discovered several issues as we stripped back its layers. We found that electrical components and plumbing systems were not up to code. So was the roofing. The concrete surfaces in many areas were porous and required replacements.

Planning is always essential in any renovation project that we take on. It’s clear to see and feel how much care and attention went to this stage, which is why the renovation result is stunning. The home now has a revamped entryway with a Velux skylight wrapped in VJ Hardie Groove that sets a statement from the start. We daresay it’s the best way to make a first impression, thanks to the high level of detail and sophistication the clients wished to achieve.

We used the durable Silestone Porcelain slabs in the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom, all high-traffic areas. We then topped things off with gun-metal finishes throughout the house to transform bland metal surfaces into modern and stylish fixtures.

Cabinets in the kitchen and butlers’ area were finished with a two-toned 2-PAC paint. The varying but complementary tints are timeless and will never go out of style. As for the bathroom, Duncan and Barbara chose to dress it with darker timber for a sleek and classy makeover. The same look was applied to the entry areas, as well. Tying the spaces together was easy with a 240mm x 1200mm x 15mm Driftwood Engineered floor. Finally, we finished the home with a texture coated render and a restored tiled roof that perfectly matches the newly rendered walls.
